The lengths a dad went to so his son could make his football game despite the flooding

The recent flooding in Wales has left many areas under water.

Over the weekend, Storm Jorge brought further heavy rain to already saturated ground in south Wales.

Fields, grasslands and roads all over the country have been left flooded making travelling even short distances a struggle.

But one dad was determined not to let flooding in Caldicot stop his son and nephew from making it to their regular Sunday football match.

But the endeavour didn't quite go to plan.

Christian Kiely regularly takes his four-year-old son Alfie and nine-year-old nephew Harley Day to Sunday football at a field near his home in Castle Lodge Crescent, near Caldicot Castle.

But recent storms have resulted in most of the castle fields and pathways becoming impassable.

"Obviously the grounds where we would walk to the park we completely flooded," Christian, 46, said.

"There's obviously lower bits and higher bits."

Undeterred, Christian decided late on Saturday night that he would pull the two boys to football in a dinghy.

But things did not go to plan, as Christian soon found the water was so high it went over the top of his boots.

Christian said he refused to accept defeat and decided to get into the small boat and row the boys there.

Unfortunately, once the group made it to the park they discovered the pitch itself was flooded and football was cancelled.

Although the boys missed the football game, Christian said they had a fantastic time anyway.

"They loved it and they can't wait to do it again," he said.

"Nobody else wants the flooding but they do.

"It was a couple of Brownie points for me. They were happy."
