The Leigh Griffiths Celtic moment that convinced Steve Clarke striker was ready for Scotland recall

Scotland boss Steve Clarke says the decision to recall Leigh Griffiths for the first time in over two years was a no-brainer after a stunning goal at Pittodrie.

The Celtic striker hasn't been capped for his country since September 2018, having taken time out of the game to deal with mental issues.

That means he hasn't been in a Scotland squad under Clarke but the 30-year-old has been called up for the Euro 2020 showdown with Serbia.

And the national team boss says seeing Griff curl one into the top corner against Aberdeen helped make his mind up.

Clarke explained: "I think Leigh's qualities speak for themselves.

"The goal he scored against Aberdeen recently in the league showed what he's got.

"He can give us something, he can add something to the squad that's for sure.

"It's the same with Craig Gordon and Grant Hanley, they're experienced players who know their jobs and I'm pleased to have them involved for the first time."

Griffiths has been capped 19 times by Scotland, scoring four goals.

His most memorable game came as he whipped home two free-kicks in a 2-2 draw with England at Hampden.
