The Leeds United target backed to be a 'great signing' who would 'improve a lot' under Bielsa

Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O'Brien would be a 'great signing' for Leeds United.

That is the verdict of former Everton and Arsenal forward Kevin Campbell who believes the 22-year-old would 'improve a lot' under Marcelo Bielsa.

O'Brien is a player who Leeds are known to have watched this summer and the Terriers are believed to be holding out for over £8million for the former Bradford City loanee.

And, at that price, Campbell is confident Leeds would be able to strike a deal for their midfield target.

“I can see Leeds paying that because it is not an amount that is going to break the bank for them, let’s be honest," Campbell told Football Insider.

“Yes, O’Brien is by no means the finished article but he is a very good player who I think would improve a lot under the coaching of someone like Marcelo Bielsa.

“He could definitely help their cause this season. I’m sure he would turn out to be a great signing for them.”

Huddersfield Town have been adamant they don’t want to sell prized asset Lewis O’Brien this summer – although club chairman Phil Hodgkinson has suggested it’s not out of the question.

“We’ve got a number of players in our squad that are saleable assets. It’s all about the timing,” Hodgkinson said earlier this year.

“We’ve always been a selling club, but as we’ve said to players – previous to me taking over the club and whilst I’ve been here – the deal’s got to be right for the club and the player for something like that to happen.

“If anybody else goes, then it would have to be on our terms, and we’d have to make sure we had high quality replacements for their positions.”
