The Leeds United shirt numbers available for new signings as transfer window heats up

It's only been two-and-a-half weeks since Leeds United were crowned Championship winners, but Marcelo Bielsa's squad are already preparing to return to pre-season training this week.

With the domestic campaign ending two-and-a-half months later than originally planned, teams are being forced to content with the shortest off-season they've ever seen.

The transfer window is open until October 5, but for Leeds United the next few weeks will be vital as Bielsa looks to add fresh faces to his squad for Leeds' first Premier League since 2004.

A host of players have been linked with the club, but what numbers will any new arrivals be sporting once they arrival?

Here's a look at the squad numbers available ahead of the new campaign?

No.5

Leeds fans will be hoping that the number five shirt is filled by a very familiar face. Ben White wore the number in every single minute of Leeds' promotion-winning campaign and the hope is that the club will be able to do a deal that sees him returning to West Yorkshire before the new season starts on a permanent basis.

No.8

Former Newcastle United man Vurnon Anita was the last player to sport the number eight shirt at Leeds, meaning it has been available for the past two seasons.

No.12

Laurens De Bock will spend the upcoming season on loan at Zulte Waregem, freeing up his number 12 shirt.

No.14

Eddie Nketiah sported the number 14 shirt during his half-season stint at Leeds last term and it remains vacant.

No.16

Matt Grimes' brief stay at Leeds in the 2016.17 campaign was the last time the number 16 shirt was used at Leeds.

No.18

Pontus Jansson wore the number 18 shirt during his three years at Leeds before he moved to Brentford last summer.

No.20

The number 20 shirt went unused last season, with Thorp Arch product Tom Pearce the last to use it before he moved to Wigan Athletic.

No.21

Samu Saiz wore the 21 shirt in his first year at Leeds before moving onto the number 14 jersey. If Leeds can get someone like previous 21-wearers Dominic Matteo or Tony Yeboah this window, it will have been a hit.

No. 22

Jack Harrison is set to sign for a third season on loan - and you'd imagine he will want the same number that has served him so well these past two seasons.

No.24

You have to go back to Hadi Sacko in 2017/18 until the 24 shirt was in use at Leeds United.

No.26

Liam Bridcutt last wore this shirt number in the 2017/18 campaign.

No.27

Robbie Fowler, Lucas Radebe and Kalvin Phillips are among those to have worn the number 27 at Elland Road, with former Chelsea loanee Jamal Blackman the last player to wear it in 2018-19.

No.29

Jean-Kevin Augustin wore the number 29 shirt in each of the 49 minutes he played for Leeds last season.
