The Leeds United players who may have said their final goodbyes to Elland Road

Sunday's lap of appreciation at Elland Road was goodbye for some.

The vast majority of Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds United squad will be back come August to build on the eye-catching progress of this season.

However, others will depart in search of a new challenge and the chance to secure the regular first-team football they missed out on in 2020/21.

Here are those most likely to head for the exit door this summer and those we know definitely will…

Ezgjan Alioski

The Whites player with his future most up in the air. The 29-year-old is now on the continent making his final preparations for Euro 2020 with North Macedonia.

Alioski’s contract expires in a little over one month’s time and he is yet to sign the offer on the table from United.

On Sunday night, Victor Orta even admitted he did not know what was going to happen with Alioski’s future.

Common sense would suggest Alioski lets his feet do the talking during the shop window of a major tournament and waits for the offers to roll in.

Alioski is well-liked in the Leeds squad and evidently valued by Bielsa given only five players saw more minutes than him this season.

However, this will be the last big contract of his short career and with no transfer fee to consider, a new club may be offering wages far in excess of United, who know Alioski is a back-up option when the squad is at full strength.

Gaetano Berardi

One of those we are certain of. The Swiss defender’s contract expires next month and he said his goodbyes to Elland Road on Sunday.

Ouasim Bouy

Did he ever say hello to Elland Road? The 27-year-old remains one of the more mystifying pieces of business Victor Orta has done in his four years with United.

Has never played a minute for the first team and little-seen at Thorp Arch across Bielsa’s three years in charge. Trying to show suitors on Instagram he is in shape.

Contract finally expires next month after letting it run down. Bouy declined multiple offers from the club to terminate it early.

Kiko Casilla

The back-up goalkeeper has another two years to run on his Leeds deal, so whether Sunday was a farewell is open to interpretation.

Bielsa has long backed his stopper in public, vehemently so, but after the controversy of last season along with a series of catastrophes between the sticks, many fans’ minds are made up.

Casilla’s inclusion in the final two line-ups of the season can either be seen as a farewell gesture from Bielsa or simply a thank you for being so patient in the background as Illan Meslier’s mentor.

There is no chance Bielsa will force Casilla out. If he wants to play regularly before he retires, he will need to move on from Leeds and it will be entirely his decision if he does so.

Pablo Hernandez

One of the other names we know is done after saying his farewells on Sunday. A modern legend of Elland Road looking for more regular minutes before he hangs his boots up for good.
