The Leeds United matches Liam Cooper is set to miss following skipper's red card at Man City

Leeds United captain Liam Cooper will miss his side's Elland Road doubleheader against Liverpool and Manchester United after he was sent off against Manchester City.

Cooper was shown his marching orders in first-half stoppage time at the Etihad Stadium shortly after Stuart Dallas had fired Leeds ahead against the Premier League leaders.

Referee Andre Marriner had initially booked Cooper for a high challenge on Gabriel Jesus, but after the Video Assistant Referee advised him to take another look, a straight red was issued.

With red cards for dangerous tackles classed as 'serious foul play' being punished with a three-match suspension, Cooper will sit out the upcoming fixtures against Liverpool, Manchester United at Elland Road over the next two weekends, plus the trip to Brighton, which is currently scheduled for May 1.

Pascal Struijk came off the bench after the red at the Etihad with Patrick Bamford the man being sacrificed after what was Leeds' first red card of the season.

Cooper's suspension will open the door for Struijk and Robin Koch, who was also among the substitutes against City to stake a claim for a place in the side.
