The League One list Bolton Wanderers sit of top after summer transfer window business

Bolton Wanderers made no fewer than nine signings over the summer transfer window as Ian Evatt strengthened several areas of his squad.

Wanderers made no more acquisitions on transfer deadline day, despite work taking place to bring in a forward player which did not ultimately bear fruit.

But nine players were brought in over the course of the summer as Wanderers got their business done before the season got under way.

Central defence has been boosted with the acquisition of George Johnston and Will Aimson, while the capture on a permanent basis of Dapo Afolayan and Declan John after their releases from West Ham United and Swansea City provided continuity from last season's promotion campaign.

Josh Sheehan has slotted straight into the starting XI in the heart of central midfield, as had Amadou Bakayoko on the flanks prior to his injury, while Elias Kachunga is growing in fitness with every performance after joining at the start of the season.

Joel Dixon is a genuine alternative to Matt Gilks in the goalkeeping department, while Xavier Amaechi will add to the forward line when he returns from injury.

Though Wanderers brought in plenty of new faces over the course of the transfer window, there has been a lot of continuity with the squad which won promotion out of League Two last season.

And it shows in terms of squad retention as Wanderers top the League One statistics in this area.

Wanderers have the greatest percentage of league minutes from players picked up last season which remain on the books for the 2021/22 campaign.

The University of Bolton Stadium outfit's figure stands at 79.7%, with Rotherham United second with 67.2% and Oxford United third with 67%.

The likes of Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday boast figures of 44.7% and 42.2% respectively.

And the bottom three in the division were Potsmouth, Morecambe and Doncaster Rovers with numbers of 41%, 37.7% and 32.8% respectively.
