Donald Trump absolutely detests Gavin Newsom. Throughout 2025, Trump has launched an avalanche of personal attacks against the California governor, dubbing him “Newscum”, accusing him of “destroying the once Great State of California”, and even saying he should be arrested for doing a “terrible job”.
Figuring that there’s no way Trump could hate him more, Newsom has been on the offensive. In response to the arrest threat, he replied, “Come after me. Arrest me. Let’s just get it over with, tough guy.” and has been viciously mocking Trump’s posting style on social media ever since.
Now, in a comment that will infuriate Trump still further, Newsom has accused him of being the one thing he hates the most:

“Wasn’t Jeff Bezos out there yelling and screaming that Biden doesn’t understand capitalism? I mean, this guy has completely perverted capitalism, Donald Trump. It’s crony capitalism, you pay him off, give him a phone call. I mean these illegal tariffs, which we’re also in court on. All the things that are happening in his country, it’s just perverse that they could be shaping the Democratic Party in the context of the socialist brand when in fact this guy is the leading nationalist and socialist of our time, Donald Trump.”
Comrade Trump
Newsom is likely referring to Trump’s eyebrow-raising part-nationalization of Intel. Thanks to Trump, the United States government now owns 10% of the key chip manufacturer, a move that’s had the more dogmatic Republicans crying foul.

Chief among them was Rand Paul, for whom any government intervention in private industry is textbook Marxism. He was stunned, saying, “Today it’s Intel, tomorrow it could be any industry. Socialism is literally government control of the means of production.”
Meanwhile, it was Christmas for actual socialists, with none other than Bernie Sanders praising Trump and hoping he goes further with more nationalization efforts: “Taxpayers should not be providing billions of dollars in corporate welfare to large, profitable corporations like Intel without getting anything in return”.
It is darkly amusing that Trump has fallen ass-backwards into a political ideology that’s the exact opposite of everything he claims to believe. Then again, there’s something of a difference between “socialism” and “national socialism”, and judging by Trump’s recent actions, we can’t help but feel he’s more than happy to embrace the latter.
