PC David Carrick has been revealed as one of Britain’s worst serial sex offenders.
He is facing life in prison after admitting a horrific campaign of rape and abuse against women across a period of around 18 years.
Carrick hid in plain sight in an elite unit of the Metropolitan Police, despite having a string of run-ins with the law over claims of harassing and abusing women in his private life.
Red flags about his character were missed and Carrick has now pleaded guilty to an appalling list of sexual and violent crimes against 12 women.
The Evening Standard's court correspondent Tristan Kirk discusses the case, its impact and whether or not trust can be built back by police.
