The Leader podcast: Home energy-saving tips and the National Grid’s future power

Home energy-saving tips and future power

With winter coming and everyone’s anxiety around rocketing fuel bills, is it possible to save pounds on our energy bills without breaking the bank?

It comes as inflation spiralled in July to 10.1 per cent, the fastest rate since 1982. It’s left living standards now also falling faster than any time since records began.

Although no-one needs reminding, the squeeze is really on for London households, particularly for low-income families as the cold weather beckons.

Londoners face the energy price cap soaring from today’s £1,971 to around £3,582 in October, before hitting more than £4,200 in January.

The Leader’s joined by Jack Wilkinson-Dix, policy officer for the Energy Saving Trust, to discuss heat waste from homes and why the government must to more to help the most vulnerable Londoners suffering sky-high electricity and gas costs.

And what’s the energy situation looking like into the future?

We also speak with David Wilson, Australia-based chief executive of Energy Exemplar, a tech company using vast simulations to help the National Grid shape its power transition.
