The latest update on Tottenham appeal after UEFA verdict on Rennes Europa Conference League game

Tottenham's appeal over UEFA's decision to award Rennes a 3-0 win in the Europa Conference League which subsequently saw them crash out of the competition is still with the club's lawyers for consideration, football.london understands.

Needing a win against the French team in their final Group G fixture with Vitesse also in the fight for a spot in the next round, the game between the sides didn't take place following a Covid outbreak in the Spurs camp.

Rennes had already arrived in the capital by the time Tottenham had confirmed in an official statement that the match was off, with UEFA confirming on the morning of the game that it would not go ahead.

Following a further statement from UEFA two days later confirming that the tie would not be played after the sides could not agree on a new date, the final decision over the game went to UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body.

Although Antonio Conte had made it clear that his team wanted to play the game and looked to find a new date for it, UEFA sided with Rennes and awarded them a 3-0 win as they came to the conclusion that Spurs had forfeited the match.

A decision that did not go down well with Conte and the club, the Italian confirmed in his press conference the day after the final outcome that it was an "incredible" and "unfair" decision and that there was also a "next step".

That "next step" would be an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but at this stage football.london understands that it is still with the club's lawyers for consideration and nothing has been decided yet.

Speaking to the media last month following UEFA's decision, Conte said: "Yeah, and there is another step. UEFA took this decision but there’s another step and we’re confident that there’s another step.

"They take normal decision, not a decision in our favour. I repeat: it was incredible what UEFA did. Also, in explanation about this defeat, I have read that Tottenham couldn’t play the game for Covid cases. I dispute this. But they took this decision.

"We are very, very confident for the next step and I repeat we deserve to play the qualification on the pitch, not in the court.

"I can’t accept this. We are very, very disappointed with UEFA for this decision."
