A bit of a departure from the usual cast here, but the next big thing in showbiz is tipped in this morning's Independent and it seems negligent not to give him a name check, lest we discover in a year's time that he's bigger than Madonna, Posh and Amy rolled into one.
He is, if you've not yet guessed, Vince Cable MP. Following his 'Stalin-to-Mr Bean' gag in parliament last week, which had MPs rolling in the aisles and headline writers across the land rejoicing, the Lib Dems' acting leader has attracted the interest of impresario Clive Conway.
Conway says:
He is entertaining but also has that all important grravitas ...
Cable, however, will soon learn that showbiz types are lions compared to the pussycats of the parliamentary world. Conway's rival, Jeremy Lee, counters:
One swallow does not make a summer. It's nothing personal against Vince, but he is just not someone I can see us being inundated with requests for.
At which point, his career appears to be on the skids before it has even started, and this may be his last appearance here as well as his first.
