The latest setback for Alexis Sanchez as former Arsenal star is dealt big injury blow

It has not been a successful time for Alexis Sanchez since he left Arsenal to join Manchester United in January 2018.

After a difficult 18-month spell with the Red Devils, the 30-year-old joined Inter Milan on loan this summer, with Sanchez making four appearances for the Serie A side so far this season.

He has only scored once in those four appearances, while he was sent off in the same game as Inter defeated Sampdoria 3-1.

And the Chilean has been dealt another blow after picking up an ankle injury on international duty, with Sanchez hurt in the second half of a 0-0 draw with Colombia this weekend.

There are fears that he could now be out until the new year, with Sanchez now returning to Milan for scans to determine the extent of the problem.

A statement on the Chilean national team website read: "The medical team of the Chilean national team informs that the player  Alexis Sanchez  presented in the second half of the match with Colombia [suffered] dislocation of left ankle peroneal tendons with retinal compromise."

Chile coach Reinaldo Rueda spoke about Sanchez's injury after the game, telling Radio Cooperativa that he had suffered a "small blow" to his ankle, but that all aspects would be evaluated more thoroughly.

Sanchez, who scored 80 goals for Arsenal in all competitions between 2014 and 2018, only scored five times at United before making the switch to Inter this summer.

But some Arsenal and United fans have wished the Chilean a speedy recovery, as can be seen below.
