The latest product recalls including Sainsbury's food and John Lewis gift bags

Unfortunately some products make it to the shelves when they are not suitable for consumers, meaning urgent recalls have to be issued.

Over the past week these have included food from Sainsbury's and gift bags from John Lewis.

Some of these items pose health risks and guidance has been issued as to what you should do if you have purchased them.

Below is a full roundup of the latest product recalls.

The latest product recalls for December 2019

Sainsbury’s Vegan Deli-Style Coleslaw

Sainsbury’s is recalling by Sainsbury’s Vegan Deli-Style Coleslaw because it may contain egg which is not mentioned on the label.

This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to egg.

Action taken by the company

Sainsbury’s is recalling the above products from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.

The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. Please see the attached notice.

Advice to consumers

If you have bought the above products and have an allergy or intolerance to egg do not eat them. Instead return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund.

Yaadgaar Ras malai

Yaadgaar is recalling Rasmalai because Listeria monocytogenes has been found in the product. This product also displays a best before date, instead of a use-by date.

Risk statement

The presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the product listed above.

Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.

Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.

Action taken by the company

Yaadgaar is recalling the above product. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. Please see the attached notice.

Advice to consumers

If you have bought any of the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.

Hipp UK Organic Combiotic First Instant Milk Starter Pack

Hipp UK is recalling Hipp Organic Combiotic First Infant Milk Starter Pack, 6x90ml because some packs do not mention the presence of fish oil on the outer box, due to a packaging error. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to fish.

John Lewis Lazzaroni Italian Collection Christmas Gift Bag

John Lewis is recalling Lazzaroni Italian Collection Christmas Gift Bag because the product label is missing and the product contains allergens.

This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to egg, milk or milk constituents, wheat or gluten and/or an allergy to almonds, nuts and/or soya. Best before date information is also absent from the packaging.
