The latest on Wigan Athletic's interest in Antonee Robinson as transfer speculation grows

Wigan Atheltic are interested in a permanent swoop for Antonee Robinson, the ECHO understands.

The youngster spent last term on loan with the Latics and put in a string of impressive performances especially towards the end of the campaign, after recovering from an injury which kept him out of action for three months.

In all the USA international made 31 appearances while on loan, and that has been enough for Wigan to be interested in a permanent transfer.

However, the ECHO understands there has been no bid yet from the Championship club.

Robinson recently spoke of his desire to break into the Everton first team this season after spending two campaigns away from his parent club on loan.

He told Wigan Today : "It’s all progress towards the main goal which is to make the breakthrough at Everton.

"The manager’s been in touch with me, he keeps telling me what I need to work on and stuff.

"He’s been pleased with me for what I’ve done this season so I don’t see why he wouldn’t give me a chance next season."

However, Leighton Baines' new 12-month contract is likely to limit Robinson's game time if he were to stay at Goodison Park - making a loan or permanent move for the youngster more likely.
