The latest on the enormous spa and water park opening next door to the Trafford Centre

New images have been released of the huge new wellbeing resort set to open near the Trafford Centre - and it looks enormous.

The £250m Therme Manchester resort will feature pools, water slides, a wave pool and relaxation areas in the family-friendly section alone.

Elsewhere in the urban oasis there will be a dedicated adults' area with swim-up bars, warm water lagoons, botanical gardens and therapeutic mineral pools.

There'll also be spa facilities including steam rooms and saunas.

A daily programme of water-based fitness classes such as yoga and pilates will be available once the resort opens to the public.

Despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Therme Manchester is still on track for a 2023 opening, with work due to begin on the site next year.

Planning permission was granted in March.

It's hoped it will bring together wellbeing, art, nature and technology to create a UK-first destination.

While Manchester will be home to Therme's first UK resort, the group is already well established in Europe, with sites in Germany and Romania.

Its most recent European success story is its Bucharest resort, which opened in 2016 and which welcomes around 1.3 million visitors each year.

All of its ventures use state-of-the-art filtration systems to purify the environment, so visitors will breathe the freshest air and swim in the cleanest water possible, they say.

With a renewed interest in staycations this year caused by global lockdowns, it's an exciting new concept for Manchester.

The Therme Group has already confirmed plans to roll out similar wellbeing resorts out across the UK, including in Wales, London and Scotland, as well as in North America and the Asia-Pacific.

The UK-wide expansion is expected to create around 3000 jobs.

Richard Land, chief development officer of Therme Group UK commented: "Therme Group is based on a belief that wellbeing should be accessible for all.

"The events of 2020 have shone a light on the necessity of this mission, especially for those in cities.

"Therme Manchester will redefine city wellbeing, enhancing mental and physical health through an experience based in water and nature.

"Therme Manchester will offer a unique holiday at home, that acts as a catalyst for healthy lifestyles."

Work will begin on the 28 -cre Manchester resort in 2021, with an expected opening date in 2023.
