The latest on Swansea City's Oli McBurnie amid Sheffield United and Brighton interest as striker drops hint

Swansea City have received no approaches for striker Oli McBurnie amid reported interest from Sheffield United and Brighton.

The Scot excelled under Graham Potter last term, scoring 24 goals in all competitions to end the 2018/19 campaign as Swansea's top scorer by some distance.

He has been heavily linked with a move away from SA1 in recent weeks, particularly since Potter departed to join Brighton.

Reports have claimed Potter is keen to take the 22-year-old forward with him to the Amex Stadium while newly-promoted Sheffield United have also been linked with the frontman.

But the Swans are yet to be contacted by the Seagulls or the Blades, or any other club regarding their star striker.

In his first press conference at Brighton, Potter was asked to give a message to his former employers while also being questioned if he would raid the Swans for their players, particularly McBurnie.

But the 44-year-old manager's response was typically coy.

"Well my message to the Swansea City fans is just so say thank you," he said.

"The support they gave me was incredible. I’ll always remember that for the rest of my life. It was not easy to leave Sweden after seven-and-a-half years.

"They supported me incredibly. We had some tough challenges and relegation from the premier League brings some really tough times but I can only thank them because the support was incredible for me and the team.

"That’s all I can say.”

McBurnie signed a new deal with the Swans last summer, with his current contract tying him to the club until 2021.

The Swans also have the option to extend the forward's contract by an additional year.

And the Scot has dropped a big hint that he will remain at the Liberty next season.

“The fans have been absolutely unbelievable with me since I arrived here,” McBurnie told the club's official website.

“It sends shivers down my spine when I hear the fans singing my name.

“In one of the games they even sang ‘he’s one of our own’, which was quite funny.

“Without the fans there is no club. Professional footballers can forget how important they are, but that’s not the case here.

“For the love they show me, I try to repay them with goals.

“I’m really looking forward to next season, and hopefully I can score a lot more goals for them.”
