In 2016 it was confirmed that the expanse of farmland between Pontprennau and Lisvane, notoriously sold by the Welsh Government in 2012 for a fraction of its current value, would be the site of 4,500 new homes. The area is marked on the council's local development plan as site F, but known as Churchlands.

Redrow’s wider Churchlands development involves up to 1,000 homes, a new primary school and public open space. A Plas Ty Draw site is made up of 308 homes, including six newly released two-bedroom apartments. It is being built over three phases, due for completion in September 2026.
A spokesperson from Redrow said: "We’ve completed on 88 homes at Plas Ty Draw and have a further 16 either reserved or exchanged."
They added that 12 homes are currently for sale at the Plas Ty Draw site. The three-four bedroom homes in the development are available from £330,995, according to Redrow's website.
The Churchlands development, also in Lisvane, has also been earmarked for three phases of homes from Redrow, and is set to comprise of 239 homes due to be completed by June 2027.
A spokesperson from Redrow said: "We are currently working on phase one of Churchlands and phase two of Plas Ty Draw."
They added that two properties are currently for sale at Churchlands, with 24 homes having been sold and a further 23 either reserved or exchanged. The three to four-bedroom homes are available from £559,995 according to Redrow’s website.
The phase three site will be bounded to the north by St Mellons Road, to the south by the Maerdy Hub around Maerdy Place, open fields to the east and existing large detached homes forming the edge of Lisvane to the west.
In October 2021, Redrow announced an additional 66 homes to be added to the Churchlands development and 78 more homes to be built at Plas Ty Draw, with occupation expected from the early part of 2023.

"The new Lisvane community will bring 1,000 homes in total as well as a two-form entry primary school for 420 pupils and a 48-place nursery as well as a village centre and a significant area of retained woodland," Redrow wrote in the announcement. Proposals for a play area at the Churchlands development were also approved in November as part of the first phase of the development.
Developers Taylor Wimpey also submitted an outline planning application to Cardiff council for a new suburb of 2,500 new homes and community facilities to be built over a 15-year period on the Local Development Plans allocation at North East Cardiff.

If the full plans are approved, the new suburb would be built next to the separate Redrow Homes Churchlands development.
In addition to the 2,500 homes, Taylor Wimpey is developing proposals for a primary school, secondary school, district and local centres together with employment space.
A new two-form entry primary school and land for a new secondary school are also being promised as part of the plans, along with shops, food and drink outlets, offices and public open space including parks and gardens.
A spokesperson for Taylor Wimpey said that the company is continuing to work closely with Cardiff council and anticipates that a decision will be made in the first half of 2022.
Developers Bellway Wales also acquired land off St Mellons Road for the construction of 270 units. The development comprises of a mix of 216 two, three, four and five-bedroom houses for private sale and 54 one, two and three-bedroom affordable homes available for local people through shared ownership or rent.
Three show homes at the Bellway development are now open, with a three-bedroom and two four-bedroom homes available to view. Fifteen plots have already been sold off plan. There’s currently a choice of three, four and five-bedroom houses available to reserve at Longwood Grange, with prices starting from £339,995.
Dan Shone, Sales Manager for Bellway Wales, said: “This is a key development for us in Wales, delivering 270 homes which will help meet the growing need for new housing in and around Cardiff.
“With construction on site progressing well, we had been looking forward to unveiling the new show homes at Longwood Grange in December and giving visitors the first chance to see a completed property at the development.
“The showhomes offer an insight into the mix of properties we’re delivering at the site, with something for buyers at all stages of the property ladder here.
“The interest in Longwood Grange has been strong ever since the site opened in September. There’s been no let-up in the numbers of people keen to visit and the first homes have been selling well off plan.
“Now that our three showhomes have been unveiled we expect that interest will increase even further. To arrange a viewing, prospective purchasers can contact the sales team to book an appointment.”
