The latest on Everton's pursuit of Marcos Rojo as Blues prioritise a centre-back on transfer deadline day

Everton are working on a deadline day deal to bring Marcos Rojo to Goodison.

The Blues have prioritised the signing of an experienced centre-half before today's 5pm cut off.

And after being knocked back in their hopes of taking Chris Smalling on loan, Everton are now looking at Rojo.

Manchester United are keen to sell the Argentinean but it is thought the Blues would prefer a loan at this stage.

Rojo only started three games for United last season and the Old Trafford club are keen to offload the 29-year-old.

Marco Silva tried to bring Rojo to Goodison last summer but was rebuffed in his attempts before making a last-gasp move for Chelsea's Kurt Zouma .

Zouma enjoyed a successful season on loan with Everton and Silva made his permanent acquisition a priority this summer.

But the Blues have been left frustrated in their attempts to strike a deal with the Stamford Bridge club as their transfer ban left them reluctant to sell.

And it has led them back to Rojo and into discussions over a move on the last day of the window.
