The latest on Dan Biggar, Jonathan Davies and George North as Wales offer hopeful injury update

Wales are hopeful of heading into the Rugby World Cup knockout stages with a clean bill of health after Warren Gatland issued another positive injury update.

Medics are optimistic that Jonathan Davies, who suffered a worrying knee injury against Fiji, will be fit in the build-up to the quarter-final against France next weekend.

There were initial fears that it may be something serious, but scans have come back clear and the two-time Lion looks set to return to action next week.

Elsewhere, Dan Biggar, who took part in Wales’ warm-up ahead of the Uruguay clash in Kumamoto, has shown promising signs of recovery from his second head knock in as many matches.

The fly-half was left on the deck after a nasty collision with team-mate Liam Williams during the win over Fiji.

But he, and George North, who is battling a sore ankle, are set to take part in preparations for next Sunday’s knockout match.

“Jonathan Davies had a scan that came back clear,” explained Wales boss Gatland.

“That’s really positive for us because the medics were initially a bit worried.

“Dan has gone through the protocols. He had a scan as well. He’s spoken to consultants from World Rugby, we’ve had an independent consulatant talk to him as well.

“They are pleased with the progress he is making. So he’ll be fine.

“George has a slight ankle injury but he’s okay.”

Gatland added: “The medics are hopeful that, in the next couple of days, we’ll have everyone fit and available for selection,  the whole 31.

“It’s the first time that we’ll have had that out here and to get to the business end of the tournament like that is really good.”
