The latest must-have for the super-rich: A superyacht fit to carry a plane on it

The latest in superyacht design for the super-rich is here - and it has a plane on it.

Conceived by Winch Designs, which creates luxury homes, yachts and private jets, the new 100m superyacht will feature a trimaran base and a landing deck big enough for a tiltrotor aircraft – and for a hangar.

The company has released concept designs of the vessel, which will be able travel at a speed of up to 28kts and will have a beam of 21m to provide the required landing deck for the Agusta Westland 609 aircraft.

The concept will become a reality through Winch Design’s partnership with Dutch shipbuilder Oceanco.

It does away with the idea that every superyacht should have at least one, if not two, helipads, and should be equipped with a tiltrotor plane instead - an aircraft mainly used by the US military which can land vertically like a helicopter but reaches the speeds of a conventional rotorcraft. It also has a pressurised cabin.

But the Ambramovichs of the world will not be able to buy one straight away – the boat still has to be commissioned, and will take between three and four years to build.

“This is a concept, it’s not a sold project at the moment,” Andreas Iseli, Head of Exterior Yacht Designs at Winch Designs told The Independent. “It’s a very real pitch, it just takes a client to take up the pitch from here to commission the next phase.”
