The latest Eros Grezda twist as Rangers winger's Ibrox frustration grows

Troubled Eros Grezda has walked out on the Albanian national team due to personal reasons, as his Ibrox future remains clouded in doubt.

The winger had joined the national squad for their European Championship qualifying double header with Iceland and Moldova, but withdrew from the squad yesterday.

It’s the latest mysterious twist surrounding the 24-year-old after his agent last week revealed he will be seeking talks with Rangers boss Steven Gerrard after becoming frustrated with his lack of top team action at Ibrox.

Grezda has made just seven league starts - the last of which was back in December - despite Gers shelling out £2million last summer to bring him from Croatian side Osijek.

Now his representative Ives Cakarun insists Grezda is considering his future with other clubs expressing an interest in him.

But now mystery surrounds the reasons behind his decision to walk out on his country in the build up to two important matches.

A statement by the Albanian FA confirmed: “Eros Grezda has withdrawn from the two games due to personal reasons.”

Later Grezda took to social media account to say: “I’m sorry to inform you that I will not be ready to help the national team in the next two games.

“I hope and believe we will get six points.”

Meanwhile, Leighton Baines won’t be joining Rangers despite speculation the Everton left-back was on the verge of a move to Ibrox.

The 34-year-old is out of contract with the Toffees and his next destination remains uncertain heading into the summer.

Speculation had been rife that Baines was set to join old Merseyside rival Steven Gerrard in Glasgow but Record Sport understands Baine’s isn’t on the Gers gaffer’s radar.
