The latest Covid infection rates across Greater Manchester as cases fall in almost every borough

Confirmed cases of coronavirus fell by more than 1,000 across Greater Manchester as a whole in a week, latest official data shows.

The statistics mean the infection rate was down by 14 per cent.

All but one borough of Greater Manchester continues to show falling case numbers week-on-week.

Bury is the only area to be reporting a rise in weekly Covid cases, the data reveals.

Weekly rates have fallen - again - in the nine other boroughs of the city region.

Trafford continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester.

Bury now has the second highest, overtaking Stockport.

But five boroughs - Trafford, Bury, Stockport, Tameside and Rochdale - now have average infection rates higher than the national average.

Trafford recorded a rate of 463.8 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending October 28, which represents the latest data available from the UK Health Security Agency.

The lowest infection rate is in Manchester, where the rate is 268.6 cases per 100,000 people.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 351.8 cases per 100,000 population.

That's lower than the national average, which is 415.8 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 9,976 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week ending October 28.

That's a decrease of 1,604 cases compared to the previous week, meaning the infection rate was down 14 per cent week-on-week.

In the week ending October 28, 42 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, five fewer than the week before.

Oldham is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate there is 271.9 cases per 100,000 people.

There were 646 cases recorded in Oldham, which is 91 fewer than the previous week - a fall of 12 per cent.

In Bolton, the number of cases is down by nine per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 273.0 cases per 100,000 of the population.

There were 787 positive Covid-19 tests in Bolton in the week ending October 28, 77 fewer than the previous seven days.

There was a nine per cent fall in cases in Salford over the week ending October 28, and the infection rate is now 298.1 cases per 100,000 population.

Salford recorded 783 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, 73 fewer than the previous week.

The trend is down in Rochdale, where there were 930 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending October 28, 156 fewer than the previous seven days. That's down by 14 per cent compared to the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Rochdale is 415.8 cases per 100,000 people.

Wigan saw a total of 1,164 cases in the week ending October 28, which is 212 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of 15 per cent.

In Wigan, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 352.0 cases per 100,000 people.

Manchester recorded 1,493 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending October 28, 296 fewer than the previous seven days.

The coronavirus infection rate in Manchester is now 268.6 cases per 100,000 people - down by 17 per cent week-on-week.

In Stockport, the latest infection rate is 431.3 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by 19 per cent.

A total of 1,269 people tested positive for Covid in Stockport over the seven days ending on October 28, which is 302 fewer than the week before.

In Trafford, there were 1,102 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending October 28, which is 323 fewer than the previous seven days.

Trafford has the highest infection rate in the region - but cases there are falling the most week-on-week.

The week-on-week trend is down by 23 per cent.

There were 832 positive tests over the last week in Bury, which is 47 more than in the previous week.

The week-on-week trend in Bury is up by six per cent and the latest infection rate is 436.3 cases per 100,000 people.

Tameside recorded 970 coronavirus cases, which is 121 fewer than in the previous seven days.

The latest infection rate in Tameside is 427.1 cases per 100,000 people - down 11 per cent week-on-week.
