The latest COVID-19 case numbers from around the states and territories

Here's a quick wrap of each Australian jurisdiction's latest COVID-19 statistics today — Thursday, May 12.

Victoria

There have been another 15 COVID-19 deaths in Victoria.

There are 545 cases in hospital, with 29 of those patients in intensive care, with eight of them requiring ventilation.

There were 14,333 new cases reported today. 

New South Wales

The state has recorded 23 more COVID-19 deaths. 

There are 1,403 cases in hospital, 56 of whom are in intensive care. 

There were 12,600 new cases reported today in New South Wales.

Tasmania

A woman in her 90s has become the 61st Tasmanian to die with COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. 

There have been 1,058 new cases reported in the state.

There are 42 people in hospital with the virus, 19 of whom are being treated specifically for COVID-19 symptoms. One person is in ICU.

Queensland

Queensland authorities have reported three more deaths of people with COVID-19.

There are 7,271 new cases in the state and 437 people currently in hospital, with 16 of them in ICU.

Australian Capital Territory

The ACT has recorded 1,132 new COVID-19 cases.

There are currently 74 people in hospital with the virus in Canberra, five of whom are in intensive care, with one requiring ventilation.

Western Australia

The state has reported a further six COVID-19 deaths, dating back to May 3.

These include two women in their 90s, two women in their 80s, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s.

There are 275 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including eight in ICU.  

Western Australia has recorded 16,670 new infections.

SA

South Australia has recorded seven deaths and 4,696 new COVID-19 cases.

It is the highest daily total since April 27.

Those who died include two women and two men in their 80s, and one woman and two men in their 90s.

The number of hospitalisations has dropped from 232 to 210, with seven of those in intensive care.
