The latest coronavirus infection rates in Greater Manchester as numbers rise in two boroughs

The coronavirus infection rate has continued to fall in most areas of Greater Manchester although it has gone up in two boroughs, according the latest figures.

Bolton continues to have the highest rate in Greater Manchester, with 47.3 cases for every 100,000 people for the week ending April 20.

It represents a fall of three per cent compared to the week before, according to the latest figures published by Public Health England.

Trafford registered the lowest infection rate in Greater Manchester with 26.1 cases per 100,000 people, one of eight boroughs where the infection rate fell compared to the previous week.

Only two boroughs saw their infection rate rise compared to the previous week, Tameside and Bury.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate was 35.9 cases per 100,000 population, which is above the average for England (24.4 cases per 100,000 people).

Every Greater Manchester borough recorded an infection rate above the England average.

In Stockport, the number of cases is down by 23 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 26.2 cases per 100,000 population.

There were 77 positive Covid-19 tests in Stockport in the week ending April 20, which was 23 fewer than the previous week.

The trend is down in Rochdale, where there were 77 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 20, which is 45 fewer than the previous seven days.

That is down by 37 per cent compared to the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Rochdale is 34.6 cases per 100,000 people.

The infection rate recorded in Wigan was 26.2 cases per 100,000 people. There were 86 cases recorded in Wigan, which is 56 fewer than the previous week - a fall of 39 per cent.

There was a rise of eight per cent in cases in Bury over the week ending April 20. The infection rate in Bury was 28.3 cases per 100,000 people.

Bury recorded 54 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, four more than the previous week.

Tameside recorded 82 coronavirus cases, six more than in the previous seven days. The latest infection rate in Tameside was 36.2 cases per 100,000 people, up eight per cent week-on-week.

In Oldham, the latest infection rate was 44.7 cases per 100,000 people, down 26 per cent compared to the previous week.

A total of 106 people tested positive for Covid in Oldham over the seven days ending on April 20, which is 38 fewer than the week before.

In Bolton, there were 136 positive cases, four fewer than the previous week.

The infection rate in Bolton is down slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is down by three per cent.

Trafford recorded 62 positive tests, some 21 fewer than the previous week.

The coronavirus infection rate in Trafford is now 26.1 cases per 100,000 people, down by 25 per cent week-on-week.

Salford saw a total of 78 cases in the week ending April 20, 23 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of 23 per cent. In Salford, the most recent coronavirus infection rate was 30.1 cases per 100,000 people.

There were 260 positive tests over the last week in the city borough of Manchester, 57 fewer than in the previous week.

The week-on-week trend in Manchester was down by 18 per cent and the latest infection rate was 47.0 cases per 100,000 people.
