The latest coronavirus infection rates in Greater Manchester as cases rise in three boroughs

Coronavirus infection rates continue to fall in seven boroughs of Greater Manchester, yet numbers have crept up elsewhere.

Bolton now has the highest infection rate in Greater Manchester, overtaking Manchester.

The borough recorded a rate of 47.3 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending April 24, the latest Public Health England (PHE) data shows.

Wigan still has the lowest infection rate with 23.1 cases per 100,000 people.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 34.6 cases per 100,000 population. The infection rate in the region is higher than the national average, which is 24.4 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 982 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on April 24. The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 91 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 8 per cent in the last week..

The infection rate is higher than the national average in 9 areas of Greater Manchester. It is lower than the national average in one area.

In Stockport, the number of cases is up by seven per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 25.9 cases per 100,000 population.

There were 76 positive Covid-19 tests in Stockport in the week ending April 24, which was 5 more than the previous 7 days.

Bury is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 25.7 cases per 100,000 people.

There were 49 cases recorded in Bury, which is 4 fewer than the previous week - a fall of eight per cent.

The trend is up in Salford, where there were 93 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 24, which is 13 more than the previous 7 days. That is up by 16 per cent compared to the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Salford is 35.9 cases per 100,000 people, which is higher than the national average.

Rochdale saw a total of 73 cases in the week ending April 24, which is 19 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of 21 per cent.

In Rochdale, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 32.8 cases per 100,000 people.

Trafford recorded 87 coronavirus cases, which is 25 more than in the previous seven days.

The latest infection rate in Trafford is 36.7 cases per 100,000 people and that is up 40 per cent week-on-week.

In Bolton, there were 136 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 24, which is 8 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Bolton has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Bolton is up slightly compared with the previous day but the week-on-week trend is down by six per cent.

There was a fall of 18 per cent in cases in Tameside over the week ending April 24, and the infection rate is now 27.4 cases per 100,000 population.

Tameside recorded 62 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 14 fewer than the previous week.

Wigan, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 76 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 24, which is 35 fewer than the previous 7 days.

The coronavirus infection rate in Wigan is now 23.1 cases per 100,000 people and is down by 32 per cent week-on-week.

There were 237 positive tests over the last week in Manchester, which is 21 fewer than in the previous week.

The week-on-week trend in Manchester is down by eight per cent and the latest infection rate is 42.9 cases per 100,000 people.

In Oldham, the latest infection rate is 39.2 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by 26 per cent.

A total of 93 people tested positive for Covid in Oldham over the seven days ending on April 24, which is 33 fewer than the week before.
