The latest coronavirus infection rates for Greater Manchester as seven boroughs see numbers fall

Greater Manchester saw its lowest number of coronavirus cases today in more than three weeks, the latest figures show.

There were 1,541 positive test results added today, the lowest daily increase since October 16.

The total number is also 703 down on the 2,217 cases recorded last Sunday.

It would appear to reflect a downward trend in the number of cases in seven of the ten boroughs in the region.

The infection rate continues to increase in Oldham and Bury, where it is up 12 and 11 per cent respectively.

There has also been a small increase in Rochdale of 2 per cent.

Oldham remains the borough with the highest infection rate at 779.4 cases per 100,000 people.

Week-on-week infection rates are decreasing everywhere else.

The overall rate for Greater Manchester has gone down four days in a row and is now down 2.3 per cent for the week ending November 4.

It comes as NHS England revealed there have been eight more deaths in the region's hospitals.

This brings Greater Manchester’s hospital death toll to 2,952.

Some 122 deaths were reqistered in England overall, bringing the total to 34,496.

Of the 122 Covid-related deaths recorded in England, the patients were aged between 44 and 98 years old. All except four (aged between 61 and 95) had known underlying health conditions.

Most of the deaths were in the North East and Yorkshire (38) followed by the Midlands (29) and then the North West (23).

These are cases in which a patient has tested positive for the virus within 28 days of their death - or when Covid is mentioned on their death certificate.

NHS England provides an update on Covid-19 related fatalities each day.

The figures do not include deaths in care homes or other settings.
