The latest coronavirus infection rates for every borough in Greater Manchester as cases continue to fall

Coronavirus infection rates are continuing to fall in every borough in Greater Manchester, the latest data shows.

The latest Public Health England figures show the transmission rate is lower than the national average in all areas across the region.

Infection rates are dropping in every area, with the rate now falling below 370 per 100,000 in every borough.

Manchester continues to have the highest infection rate in the region.

It was recorded at 367.9 in the week ending January 21.

But its rate has dropped by 19 per cent week-on-week.

Oldham has the lowest infection rate in the region, falling 20 per cent to 251.8.

Wigan and Bury have also seen their rates drop by 20 per cent. In Wigan, it currently stands at 343.2 and in Bury, 330.9.

Salford's rate stands at 353.1, a fall of 13 per cent.

Bolton's rate has also dropped by 13 per cent 337.3 per 100,000.

Rochdale's rate has fallen by 6 per cent to 322.4 and Tameside's by 15 per cent to 313.15.

The infection rate in Trafford now stands at 302.9 - a fall of 28 per cent.

In Stockport, the rate has dropped by 25 per cent to 300.2.

The national average for England stands at 402.1 - this is a 21 per cent week decrease week-on-week.

Despite the continuing drop in infections, Matt Hancock today set out why the 'facts on the ground' mean that the coronavirus lockdown will not be lifted anytime soon.

The Health Secretary said it was 'difficult' to put a timeline on the easing of measures as the government must continue to 'monitor the facts' and that the pressure on the NHS 'remains huge'.

Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Jenny Harries added that 'we are not out of this by a very long way'.
