The late summer and early autumn festivals and other events you can still go to in Swansea

It wasn't much of a summer weather-wise, with only a few weeks of decent sunny weather.

But with the lowering of lockdown measures lifted our spirits and there are still plenty of musical and other events to be held around the Swansea region in the coming months.

They kick off this weekend, and here's a round up of what's ahead in the coming months.

Jopofest21

A weekend of live music and camping at one of the most spectacular venues on Gower. Hosted in the shadow of Weobly Castle and with stunning views over the Llanrhidian saltmarshes and the Loughor estuary, the festival is a rare opportunity to camp at the venue and features live music from the likes of The Mudskippers, Fonz and Poet, Grand Theft Audio, Polar Berries and more.

Gates open at 2pm on Friday, September 3, for campers, and festival gates at 6pm. Tickets from 2020, when the event was forced to be postponed due to the pandemic, remain valid. Entry is free for under 12s. More information can be found here.

Catfish and the Bottlemen

Catfish and the Bottlemen will storm the stage at Singleton Park this weekend (PA)

Singleton Park has already hosted Olly Murs and Foals, and it's not finished yet. Next up are Catfish and the Bottlemen. The indie rockers will perform their biggest ever Welsh show with up to 20,000 expected to attend.

The group was due to play last year, but the event had to be rescheduled due to the pandemic. Expect a lot of people looking to let off some much needed steam!

There is no admission to the event without proof of a negative lateral flow test, taken within 48 hours. Information on that and everything else you need to know can be found here.

Business as Usual

Free music and family fun is on offer at the Gorsedd in Ystradgynlais in the Swansea Valley on Saturday, September 4, and featuring swing duo Well Seasoned, as well as Roxy Benns, William Hefin Murphy, Jack Simpson, Lorraine Brandon and The Lindy Hoppers. Food is available but chairs and blankets should be brought. Donations will be taken for local charities.

The event begins at 7pm, and is preceded by a family fun day

Gŵyl Tawe 21

Dewch i fwynhau'r gerddoriaeth at y Railway Inn (Railway Inn)

A new Welsh language festival for Swansea with live music DJs, food and drink. It is open to everyone whether they are a fluent Welsh speaker, learning, or just want to enjoy some quality live music.

Hosted by the Railway Inn in Upper Killay, and organised by Menter Iaith Abertawe, the free event runs from 3pm to 7pm. More information here.

Tim Burgess Listening Party: Trampolene's 'Love No Less Than A Queen'

The Bunkhouse is hosting the chance to hear Swansea favourites Trampolene' s new album in its entirety, while joining former Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess's online Listening Party, on Wednesday, September 8.

Trampolene have supported Liam Gallagher and The Libertines, while their debut album, From Swansea to Hornsey, was one of The Independent's albums of the year.

Swansea Parks Festival

The last in a series of five events featuring outdoor cinema and live music takes place at Jersey Park on September 10 - 11. Toy Story and The Greatest Showman are the featured films on Friday, while the family fun day on Saturday includes an array of activities including circus skills and music from Ailie Kenna, Sons of Owen, Ragsy, This River, No Salad, Soulskunks and The Revolvers. Mumbles Fest

Another Gower castle, another festival. This one takes place in the grounds of Oystermouth Castle on Saturday, September 11, and features live music and kids activities. Daytime performers include children's rock outfit, The Rock Project, choirs and sax player, Mick Luck, while the evening sees The Flames and Mrs Loud - aka Lorraine Crosby - who sang the female vocal on Meat Loaf’s huge hit, I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That).

Escape in the Park

The long awaited return of the much loved dance event takes place in Singleton Park on Saturday, September 25. Four stages with some of the 'biggest names in house, bass, hard house and trance' including Jax Jones, Chase & Status, Eddie Halliwell, Mousse T, Sam Divine, Hybrid Minds, Chicane, Judge Jules, Cally & Juice and K Motionz and more.

The Wendy James Band

Expect dirty punk blues and grunge pop from Wendy James and her band (David Leigh Dodd)

The former Transvision Vamp front woman will be at Cinema & Co in Castle Street on Tuesday, September 28, as part of the Queen High Straight album launch tour. Doors open for the bombshell singer at 8pm, with the band on at 9.30pm. Tickets available here.

Oktoberfest

Time to dig out the lederhosen (Publicity photos)

The ever popular beer festival comes to Swansea on Sunday, October 3. The venue has yet to be revealed, but organisers promise it will be an 'epic location'.

Promising a Munich big top atmosphere in the heart of Swansea with table service from waitresses in traditional German dress and authentic German food, Bavarian Oompah bands, fair ground rides and sausage eating contests. More information can be found here.

Swansea Fringe Festival

Comedian Phil Kay will be raising some laughs (Redferns)

Another welcome return - a four-day festival hosting some of Swansea's finest live music, comedy, film and spoken word. Taking place at venues across the city it features more than 200 performers. Bigger names include Swansea-grown favourites Trampolene, as well as Edinburgh festival newcomer comedy competition winner Phil Kay, poet/ playwright Eric Ngalle Charles, and Ivor Novello-winning musician Scott Matthews, with plenty of local talent too.

Hugh Cornwell Electric

Still a hero to some - former Stranglers frontman Hugh Cornwell (Paul Burgman)

The Former Stranglers front man will play a set of solo songs, including from new album Monster, as well as a selection of the big hits - including Golden Brown, Peaches, No More Heroes.

He visits Sin City for the event on Saturday, November 30. Full details here.
