The Late Late Show viewers 'moved' by emotional Anthony Foley segment on RTE

Late Late Show viewers were moved by a touching segment about Anthony 'Axel' Foley on Friday night.

Munster legend Foley's wife Olive was on the show with Ryan Tubridy where she shared memories of her husband and how the family coped with his passing.

During the interview Olive told how she read Anthony's autobiography to their two boys after his death to help them get through their first winter without him.

The then Munster manager was 42 when he passed away in October 2016 the night before his team were to play Racing 92 in France.

Olive said on the show: "I suppose the nights were long after Anthony died.

"He died in October, we had a long winter and y'know myself and the kids we'd just go to bed early.

"And I found that they really enjoyed it when I took out the book.

"And they learned an awful lot because the book was written before they, well Tony was a small baby, so this book has nothing to do with them.

"It's all about Anthony before they were born.

"And it was stuff we'd never have shared with them or stuff about Anthony as a child or growing up with his sisters and his parents."

And viewers were moved by the "courageous" Olive and praised her for speaking out on the show.

Eamon Fitzpatrick said on Twitter: "What a splendid lady Olive Foley is. Honest, strong, courageous and incredibly straightforward in telling it as it happened, difficult obviously, but the pride she shows of her legend of a husband is clear for all to see."

Anita O'Donnell added: "Olive Foley is such an inspiration ! I have the upmost respect and admiration for her."
