Sony have announced that the release of The Last of Us, Part II has been delayed indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The much-anticipated sequel to Naughty Dog’s 2013 survival horror game had been scheduled for release on 29 May.
Marvel’s Iron Man VR has also been pushed back for the same reason.
In a tweet, Sony wrote: “SIE has made the difficult decision to delay the launch of The Last of Us Part II and Marvel's Iron Man VR until further notice.”
“Logistically, the global crisis is preventing us from providing the launch experience our players deserve.”
“Currently, there are no other delays to report,” the post continued, “but we'll keep you updated.”
Naughty Dog also provided a statement on Twitter, saying that the game was in the very final stages of development, but logistical issues meant that Sony could not distribute the game properly.
“We were bummed about this decision but ultimately understood what's best and fair to all of our players. We're hoping that this won't be a long delay,” said the company.
The coronavirus pandemic is already wreaking havoc with release schedules in the gaming world. Square Enix, for example, recently shipped Final Fantasy VII Remake early to fans in some regions in a bid to circumvent coronavirus delays.
