'The Last of Us 3' Teased by Neil Druckmann: Naughty Dog Has New Ideas to Explore For the Game

Rumors have previously talked about a potential "The Last of Us Part III" game but hopes of a new title to complete the trilogy are now sparking as studio head Neil Druckmann teased the possibility.

'The Last of Us Part III' Teased by Neil Druckmann

Druckmann gave the teaser that sent everyone talking in his latest interview with Variety. The story focused on the development of HBO's "The Last of Us" series, where Druckmann was a showrunner before deciding to leave the show after the Season 2 finale, giving Craig Mazin the full reins on Season 3's development.

Druckmann revealed that after "The Last of Us Part II's" completion over at Naughty Dog, the team has debated which title they would develop under the company as its next IP, claiming that "The Last of Us Part III" was presented on the table.

However, as the company explored the possible IPs to develop, including franchises like "Uncharted" and "Jak and Daxter," the team ultimately opted for the new sci-fi IP, which is now known as "Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet."

That being said, Druckmann claimed that there are more things that they would like to explore in "The Last of Us" franchise, stating that it is possible to revisit these ideas after their development of "Intergalactic."

According to GameRant, Druckmann revealed in a previous interview that he tends to focus on only one game at a time as developing one is already "all-consuming," and he reaffirmed this statement in his recent interview with Variety.

What Druckmann Had to Say

"We had a really long period where we looked at ideas for maybe what could be in that game," the creator and co-writer said.

However, the Naughty Dog exec claimed that "Whether that will be our next game right after that, I can't say, and I leave that door open," referring to "The Last of Us Part III."
