The last-gasp Manchester United transfer push as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seeks to avoid major headache

Odion Ighalo could yet extend his loan at Manchester United, according to a report.

The Nigerian striker's short stint at Old Trafford is set to expire on Sunday after which he'd return to parent club Shanghai Shenhua.

Ighalo's January arrival was a surprise success for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the former Watford star proved an effective plan B in attack.

But with the Premier League set to to restart in June, the United boss could be left a man down in attack.

However, Goal report there is "growing confidence" Ighalo could be allowed to stay in England until January 2021.

The two clubs have been locked in talks and it's said discussion now focuses on whether the 30-year-old could remain with on-loan Solskjaer's side for an extended period.

United paid Shenhua a loan fee for the initial transfer and it's likely they'd have to fork out again if a deal goes through.

Ighalo scored four goals in three starts for the club following his early 2020 switch.

He is not, however, being considered for a full-time deal.

Former Celtic star Moussa Dembele has long been linked with United and the club could pursue a deal that would pair him with Marcus Rashford in attack.

United decided against moving for Dembele before he joined the Hoops in 2016 amid Rashford's emergence into the first-team.
