The Lakers’ bench sparked a wild comeback win in Chicago

The Los Angeles Lakers entered a road game in Chicago with the best defense in the NBA, but a 2-5 Chicago scored 65 points in the first half to open up a big lead. With every Lakers player other than LeBron James struggling offensively, Los Angeles fell behind by as many as 18 points in the third quarter, but the Lakers went on a furious fourth-quarter run to close the deficit and win.

Lakers coach Frank Vogel went to a small-ball lineup in the fourth quarter with both James and Anthony Davis on the bench, and Kyle Kuzma went on a personal 7-0 run to begin the quarter and cut into the deficit. Dwight Howard continued his excellent run to start the season, and kept the Bulls scoreless in the quarter with a highlight-reel block on rookie Coby White from behind.

The Lakers took the lead with 8:53 remaining on a three-pointer by Quinn Cook that set up a four-point play opportunity, part of a 29-4 run to start the fourth. Cook missed the free throw, but the Lakers went on to extend their lead to 13 points in the quarter.

James capped his night with an assist to Anthony Davis for a corner three to record his third consecutive triple-double, finishing the game with 30 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists.
