The Lady Boys of Bangkok are heading back to Manchester

One of the most inclusive cabaret shows in the UK is making its grand return this summer. The Lady Boys of Bangkok has been delighting audiences with its glitz and glamour for over 20 years, and this June it will make its long-anticipated return to Manchester.

The ‘Summer of Fun’ show, which takes place at The Sabai Pavilion, outside the Great Hall at the Trafford Centre, will run from June 24 to July 9. Guests can expect the biggest party and floor filling hits performed by the ‘the biggest showbiz divas and singing superstars in the world’, as part of the 90-minute theatrically choreographed show.

The Sabai Pavilion will provide a spacious yet intimate backdrop, and will transport guests to Thailand, not only with the décor and stage set-up, but with the aromas of freshly prepared Thai cuisine. The space will also feature two well-stocked bars that should keep the drinks flowing.

Tour Director Binky Beaumont said: “We are delighted to be returning to Manchester as part of the UK tour once again and we hope that our new home at the Trafford Centre will be accessible and a great addition on the nine month UK section, coming to Manchester direct from the Brighton Festival and prior to our 23rd season at the world famous Edinburgh Festival. It is so exciting for us all as we are a north-west based company and support the Northern Powerhouse levelling up initiative and this will be Manchester’s biggest night out-out and we cannot wait to return this summer!”

Officially the largest and longest running cabaret show in the UK following a more than 20-year stint at Edinburgh Festival, months of preparation go into each performance, and this year is no different. Rehearsals begin in Thailand at the end of January, and the cast is brought together with costumiers, lighting designers and the creative team, before rehearsals begin.

For an idea of scale, once on tour, the cast and team get through 315 lipsticks, 400 eyeshadow packs, 2360 sets of eyelashes, 152 wigs and 4200 replaced sequins and diamantes. And not forgetting the 8,200 miles of coach travel, 3250 hotel rooms and 22400 selfies taken by the cast, that is also involved.

In anticipation of the show, city centre venues and theatres are booked a couple of years ahead to ensure the show has the best stage and can perform somewhere every night between April and November. This time, there’s a team of 26 on the theatre tour alone, who are on hand to ensure the show goes ahead without any glitches.

The Lady Boys of Bangkok will be performing outside the Great Hall at the Trafford Centre from Friday June 24 to Saturday July 9. You can grab your tickets here.
