The Labour party rallies behind Mandelson (almost)

Tonight's meeting of the parliamentary Labour party was largely one big show of unity. Even George Howarth - one of the leading rebels - declared "hostilities are over".

But it seems the sentiment doesn't necessarily stretch to the new business secretary, Peter Mandelson, who is recovering from kidney stones.

As colleagues at the meeting expressed their wish for him to enjoy a speedy recovery, one MP quipped: "Let's hope it's nothing too trivial."
