The Kris Ajer Celtic transfer link that never dies as Italian media claim Milan will try 'new approach'

Fresh reports from Italy suggest that Kris Ajer could be heading to AC Milan with the club looking at back-up options on their hunt for a new defender.

Ajer has repeatedly been named as a long-term target for the Rossoneri in the Italian media but no deal has materialised.

However, Corriere dello Sport claim the Serie A giants are preparing a swoop for the the Norwegian this month.

It is claimed technical director Paolo Maldini is in the market for a centre-back and had hoped to snap up Mohamed Simakan of Strasbourg.

However, the deal has been dealt a blow with the Frenchman out for six weeks with injury and they are now considering other options.

The Parkhead star's name has popped up once again with Celtic reportedly hoping for around £20million for the highly-rated defender.

The report notes that Milan may try a new approach to lure Ajer to the San Siro by offered loanee Diego Laxalt as a bargaining chip to reduce the transfer fee demands.

Maldini has previously noted that the club were not actively pursuing a deal for Ajer after plenty of transfer talk linking him with a move away from Glasgow last summer.
