'The Kop next' - Liverpool fans react to £60m Anfield Road development

Liverpool will move forward with the expansion of the Anfield Road end, the club confirmed in a statement on Wednesday.

The redevelopment will see the ground's capacity increase by 7,000 to more than 61,000, which will take them above Manchester City's Etihad stadium and West Ham's London Stadium.

Construction can now begin with the club hopeful of work being completed in time for the 2023/24 season, and supporters are delighted with the news.

"This is class, more people we can get into Anfield the better," one supporter tweeted.

Another said: "Fantastic news! 60k plus at Anfield, that's brilliant. Hope we keep expanding this way, get close to 70k in 7-8 years."

One posted: "I was there before the new main stand, during construction and after. What these owners have done for our club and to see Anfield develop like this fills me with pride."

Another shared: "Brilliant news! We could do with 70,000 more seats not 7,000!"

This follows the redevelopment of the Main Stand, which was completed in 2016.

The expansion of the Anfield Road end will follow the same method, with construction taking place throughout the season as matches continue to be played.

Anfield will become the third largest ground in the country, behind Old Trafford and Tottenham Hotspur's new stadium.
