The Knicks’ last win shows a promising young core. Now they need to stop winning.

The New York Knicks actually won a game! That actually happened! In case you were watching the 2019 Oscars instead, even Samuel L. Jackson took the time to remind you and Spike Lee that it happened for the second time in 21 games.

There are some serious positives from Sunday’s win over the Spurs with this stripped-down squad filled with young prospects: Kevin Knox looks like he has a chance to live up to his lottery potential, Dennis Smith Jr. resumed doing what he did with the Dallas Mavericks in his rookie year, the Emmanuel Mudiay Revival continues to be a thing, and Mitchell Robinson is a shot-blocking machine.

Now, uh, can they stop winning please?

Let’s start with the good news about Sunday’s win over the Spurs and their recent victory over the Atlanta Hawks: If there are free agents who want to compete right away with a new team, at least seeing this young team win a game or two is a positive thing. It’s not like there’s NOTHING in New York and the Knicks have to start from complete scratch.

But the crown jewel is obviously the No. 1 pick and the chance to draft Zion Williamson, and while the Knicks have the second-worst record in the NBA as of Monday morning, they don’t want to keep winning. The Cavs (14 victories) and Suns (11) are in a group with the 12-win Knicks with the best lottery odds if the season ended now, but the Bulls (16 wins) are right there.

So, maybe more of this, Knicks …

… And less of this:

Okay, maybe some of that. Just don’t do it too much.
