The Kitchin told to clean-up its act after evidence of 'mouse infestation and black mould' found

The Kitchin has been warned to clean up its act after evidence of "mouse infestation and black mould" was reportedly found at the Leith restaurant.

It has been reported in today's The Mail on Sunday that the celebrated Michelin-starred restaurant has been criticised by hygiene inspectors.

A council inspection on the upmarket Commercial Street eatery noted a "contravention" of hygiene guidelines.

It is said to have found evidence of mouse infestation, patches of mould including one in a walk-in fridge, and a lack of sinks for handwashing.

Inspectors visited the restaurant earlier this summer, and the environmental health department has demanded that the problems are all sorted out.

The Kitchin was opened by acclaimed Edinburgh chef Tom Kitchin and wife Michaela in 2006. It was awarded a Michelin star the following year and has gone on to win a number of awards and top 'best restaurant' lists.

It prides itself as being a restaurant which "presents modern British seasonal cuisine inspired by French cooking techniques".

The Kitchin Group has been contacted for comment.
