The King on Netflix: Timothée Chalamet to star as Henry V in new historical drama

Netflix has released a first-look image of Timothée Chalamet as King Henry V in its forthcoming drama, The King.

The Call Me by Your Name actor plays the reluctant monarch in a new movie from Animal Kingdom director David Michôd.

In the picture, Chalamet’s young king can be seen looking solemn, sitting in the middle of a medieval square. Behind him are soldiers and cloaked men, standing against a historic English flag flying in the background.

The film will follow King Henry V’s transformation from wayward Prince Hal to a British monarch who is forced to embrace the life he had previously tried to escape.

It will show the young king navigating the “palace politics, chaos and war his father left behind”.

Joel Edgerton also stars as the king’s closest friend and mentor, the ageing alcoholic knight John Falstaff, as well as Sean Harris, Ben Mendelsohn, Robert Pattinson, and Lily-Rose Depp.

The King will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival 2019.
