Chelsea have announced the return of club legend Frank Lampard as the Blues new head coach.
The move had been on the cards for some time, with Chelsea on the lookout for a successor to Maurizio Sarri after the Italian left the club to take the managerial role at Serie A giants Juventus.
But, there was only ever one name in the running to take the role.
Lampard played a total of 640 games in a blue shirt, over a 14 year period, scoring 209 goals.
He returns with just a year of managerial experience, having led Derby County to the Championship play-off final against Aston Villa in his first year in the role, earning praise from both fans and pundits alike.
It looked likely that the former midfielder would return to Stamford Bridge late last month when Derby County gave the Blues permission to speak to their manager, with a return 'home' not being something that the 41-year-old would be able to turn down.
For many the move is seen as somewhat of a risky one for the Blues, with Lampard only having one season of experience, but with the club in the midst of a transfer ban, the club legend's reputation of working with young players could mean that the appointment will turn out to be a masterstroke by Chelsea.
With his reputation at the club, Chelsea fans are likely to be more patient with Lampard than they would with any other appointment.
