The Kieran Tierney transfer 'puzzle' as Arsenal legend floats knock on effect that could spark Leicester City move

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has urged the club to stick with Kieran Tierney if Brendan Rodgers attempts to lure him to Leicester.

The former Celtic left-back has been linked with a reunion with his old boss after claims he could be sold to fund Mikel Arteta's summer spending.

Parlour would be stunned if the Gunners cashed in on Tierney so quickly following his move Parkhead in 2019, but admits anything can happen in the transfer window.

He fears the potential sale of Ben Chilwell from Leicester to Chelsea could trigger a knock-on effect that sees Rodgers move for Tierney.

"He'd be playing Champions League football with Leicester next season, if he did move," Parlour told talkSPORT.

"But I'd be amazed if Arsenal let him go. His career at Arsenal hasn't really started yet.

"He's a fantastic player, though, great energy in the way he gets up and down the pitch, which is certainly what you need on the left and right side in the modern day because you've got be like wingers, like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson at Liverpool.

"You've got to get up and get crosses into the box but also defend. I think Tierney's got a massive future but he's had a nightmare with injuries.

"But, with Leicester, it's like a puzzle. If one of their best players goes to Chelsea for big money, suddenly they've got a pot of money and you've got to replace him, you've got to test the water.

"Obviously, Brendan Rodgers knows him very well from Celtic.

"It'd have to be a big fee, but I can't see that (£25m), I think they bought him for that same money.

"I know he's had injuries and I don't know what sort of state the financial situation is with Arsenal, whether (Pierre-Emerick) Aubameyang will sign a new contract, whether they'll let players go this summer."

Gunners technical director Edu made Tierney one of his first signings after arriving at the Emirates in July last year.

And Parlour questioned whether he would be prepared to pull the plug on the Scot.

He added: "That's what it's all going to be about. Edu has a really important job trying to say: 'We need four players in but we might release or sell three or four'.

"Whether Tierney is one of those players they'd have to sell... I'd be amazed.

"They have Kolasinac on that side as well, but from what I've seen, he's a very exciting player.

"His age, as well, will come into it. He's only a young lad, he will get a few injuries here and there.

"But I would definitely keep him. Give him a run in the team when he's fit and look at him properly.

"But if Brendan Rodgers sees a little chink in his armour that Arsenal are thinking about letting him go, then who knows.

"Football doesn't surprise you any more, does it?"
