The Kieran Tierney Arsenal conundrum as Gunners target bumper Bukayo Saka deal

Injured Kieran Tierney is facing a fight for his Arsenal starting place with the Gunners ready to fight to secure Bukayo Saka on a lucrative long-term contract.

The highly-rated England youth international has only 18 months remaining on his £3,000-per-week deal and club hierarchy are "pushing extremely hard" to convince him to remain in North London for five years.

And his future is tied directly to Tierney with the 18-year-old shining at left-back in the absence of the Scotland international who is recovering from a dislocated shoulder.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta raved about the former Celtic star's "incredible" work ethic during rehab but it's understood the Spaniard has been left seriously impressed with Saka's devlopment.

The Athletic report the Premier League big boys are keen to move quickly on their rising star with the likes of Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Liverpool monitoring his situation.

And the England U19 speedster only added to his burgeoning reputation with his all-action display in Arsenal's convincing 4-0 win over Newcastle on Sunday.

Saka's versatility to play further up the pitch means both he and Tierney could dovetail in the same starting XI but any potential double act appears unlikely with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang currently starring on the left wing.

Tierney is pushing hard to get back to full fitness for club and country with Scotland gearing up for their Euro 2020 playoff showdown with Israel on March 26.

The £25m summer signing has only made 11 appearances in all competitions this season.
