The key to Marina Granovskaia sealing Timo Werner transfer as Chelsea beat Liverpool to star

RB Leipzig's managing director Oliver Mintzlaff has praised Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia for the way she deal with the German club during the Timo Werner transfer.

The Blues confirmed this morning that they had sealed the deal for the 24-year-old on a five-year transfer, paying the £47.5million release clause for his contract.

It's a massive coup for the Blues, with Werner having scored 26 Bundesliga goals so far for Leipzig this season and fits the profile that Frank Lampard is looking to bring in.

Chelsea have already sealed the signing of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax, and while they have now signed Werner, it is not going to be the end of the summer spree.

Oliver Harbord's Chelsea Q&A: Timo Werner and Kai Havertz latest and more

Chelsea's transfer business is headed up by Granovskaia, with the director being the key in dealing with opposition clubs and the players themselves.

And Mintzlaff had nothing but praise for Chelsea, while he is disappointed in losing a key man for the Germans.

Speaking to Leipzig's website, Mintzlaff said : "I have known Timo Werner for many years and his development is exemplary. He came to us in Leipzig as a striker talent in 2016 and has made the leap to one of the best attackers in the Bundesliga. His path underlines our philosophy of developing young players with great potential.

"On the one hand, Timo's change is of course a bitter loss. On the other hand, we also regard this transfer as a great compliment to our young club and are very proud to have formed a top international striker in just a few years who now has the quality for a top international club like Chelsea FC .

"We have always emphasized that it is important for our business in Leipzig to also sell players. Only with these transfer proceeds can we continue to grow step by step and gradually align RB Leipzig internationally.

"Negotiations with those responsible at Chelsea were always very respectful, fair and constructive. We only wish Timo the best for his challenge in London. "
