The key Swansea City weakness under Graham Potter that star says Steve Cooper immediately addressed

Matt Grimes has revealed the way Swansea City now defend set plays has been the biggest change under Steve Cooper compared to life under former boss Graham Potter.

The Swans conceded 24 times from set pieces in the Championship last term, the most of any side in the division.

However, they have let in just four goals from set plays in the league so far this term, with only Stoke City (3) conceding fewer.

And captain Grimes says the improvement has come as a result of hard work on the training ground under the current coaching staff.

"The gaffer has obviously come in and addressed set plays in the summer because that was one of our biggest weaknesses," Grimes told WhoScored.

"I’d say that has probably changed more than anything else and then it’s just how the staff and the manager set us up in defensive organisation."

This weekend's clash with Luton Town marks the halfway stage of the 2019/20 Championship campaign for Swansea.

Despite a run of just one win in their last seven league outings, Cooper's men remain within striking distance of the play-offs and could spend Christmas Day in the top six if results go their way in the latest round of fixtures.

Swansea's impressive away record has played a key part in keeping them in touch with the upper echelons of the league standings, with the Swans losing just once in 10 away Championship games so far this term.

And Grimes believes the way teams set up against Swansea when they play away from home has tended to suit them.

"I think we're up against it when we're away. When we're not under the cosh, but when they're enjoying a little bit more of the ball, our shape, our defensive organisation, is fantastic, and I think that's what we, sometimes, base our performances around away from home," he added.

"Not saying we're negative away from home. We don't go to sit off, but when you have to weather a storm, I feel like we do that really well and it gives us that platform to then go and win the game."

And on the Grimes said: "We know it will be a very tough game.

"I think they've won a lot of their points at home this season (14 of Luton's 20 points have come at Kenilworth Road), so we know it will be a tough one going up there, but our away record is strong."
