The key statistics that prove Chelsea & Maurizio Sarri may have made a big mistake in January

Gonzalo Higuain may have scored for Chelsea on Monday night against Burnley, but it has not been a particularly productive spell for the Argentine since his arrival in January.

The 31-year-old joined the Blues on loan in January, linking up once again with Maurizio Sarri, who he worked with at Napoli and enjoyed his most successful season working with in 2015/16, with 36 goals in Italy.

But Higuain has so far struggled to find such form at Chelsea , who brought him in to replace Spanish striker Alvaro Morata, who left the club to join Atletico Madrid on loan.

Indeed, statistical analysis from Opta show that Higuain has actually fared worse than Morata in several key areas since his arrival in west London, as highlighted by an Instagram post from OneVolante, below.

Higuain has scored four goals for Chelsea at a rate of one every 254 minutes, while Morata netted nine goals in all competitions for the Blues in the first half of the season at a rate of one strike every 184 minutes.

The statistics also show that Morata had more shots on target per 90 minutes than Higuain has managed, with the Spaniard registering an average of 1.5 shots on target per 90 minutes compared to the Argentine's 1.3.

Morata also has a better record than Higuain when it comes to distance covered and sprints per 90 minutes, with the Spaniard also outperforming the Argentine by a considerable margin when it comes to aerial duels won.

In his 16 Premier League appearances this season, Morata won an average of 1.7 duels per 90 minutes, while Higuain has won an average of 0.6 aerial duels in his 11 top flight appearances since joining.

Higuain has outperformed Morata in one key statistic, with the Argentine creating an average of 1.3 chances per 90 minutes, while Morata created an average of 0.7 chances per game in the first half of the campaign.

'Bring him back for Higuain!' Chelsea fans rave about Tammy Abraham after another goal

Higuain could lead the line again for Chelsea today (Sunday) against Manchester United, and Blues supporters will be hoping that he can build on his goal against Burnley on Monday and add to his tally to boost the club's hopes of a top four finish.
