The key role Liverpool have to play in Jose Mourinho and Tottenham's Europa League quest

Jose Mourinho and his Tottenham players are gearing up for a huge day on Sunday as the 2019/20 Premier League season draws to a close.

While last May Spurs needed to get a result on the final day to clinch a top-four finish, this time around it's a Europa League spot they are after.

The Lilywhites have been way off their best this season and that's why they go into the final match in seventh.

As fifth is out of the question as they trail Manchester United, who play their game in hand this evening, by four points, Spurs are eyeing up sixth and the place in Europe that comes with it.

Wolves are in the driving seat heading into the final fixture, although seventh would be enough for Mourinho's side providing Chelsea beat Arsenal in the FA Cup at the start of next month.

The Blues' next two results are going to prove vital and they will play a big role in whether or not Spurs qualify for a Europa League position.

Chelsea are in action later this evening when they take on Liverpool at Anfield.

While the game will finally see the hosts get their hands on the Premier League trophy after a barren 30-year wait, Frank Lampard's team go into the match knowing that three points will seal a spot in next season's Champions League with one game to spare.

Although the Blues are still likely to be playing for third place on the last day of the season as Manchester United are expected to beat West Ham this evening, they could lose at home to Wolves on Sunday and still be safe in the knowledge that they have a guaranteed place in Europe's top competition for the 2020/21 season.

A win at Anfield could also see Lampard rest a number of key players for the Wolves game as the west London club play in the FA Cup final against Arsenal six days later.

Tottenham are going to need a favour off their great rivals in the fight for Europe and the ideal situation for Mourinho and his side is that the Blues drop points at Anfield in the evening kick-off.

Spurs really need the west London club to have something to play for on the final day as Chelsea's game against Wolves is going to prove crucial to their Europa League hopes.

The Lilywhites probably couldn't have picked a better fixture for the Blues in their penultimate match as Liverpool will not want to have their party spoiled on the day they pick up the Premier League trophy.

Whether it's a win or a draw at Anfield, Spurs need Jurgen Klopp's team to get something off Chelsea later on as they look to leapfrog Wolves for sixth on Sunday afternoon.
