The key part of Christian Pulisic's performance that Chelsea fans would have loved to see

Fans got a first glimpse of Christian Pulisic in a Chelsea shirt having completed his deal with the Blues back in January.

After being loaned back to Borussia Dortmund for the rest of the 2018/19 Bundesliga campaign, Chelsea had to wait even longer for him head to west London.

The 20-year-old helped the USA to the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, but then cut his holiday short so that he could fly out to Japan and try to impress Frank Lampard.

After just four days of training with the rest of his team-mates, it was not a massive surprise to see Pulisic on the bench against Kawasaki Frontale.

With 25 minutes left in the game at the Nissan Stadium, there wasn't a lot of time for him to make much of an impression in the game.

When coming on, he instantly tried to make an impression, starting on the left but moving across the front line to try to find space and make an impact.

At times it looked like he was maybe trying a little too hard to takr the ball on himself, however at times he won corners well with direct running and being positive with his crosses into the box.

However, there is another element to his game, that some fans may not have been aware before about, and that was his work ethic.

The 20-year-old really put himself about throughout the time that he was on the pitch, constantly working hard to make an impression in his new side.

There was certainly not enough time to prove everything he could do, but the American really looked up for the contest, and that would have been encouraging for Blues fans to see.

Asked by ChelseaTV about how he felt Pulisic has done this week, Lampard said: "Good, good, he has been here a couple of days really in terms of training, so have been really impressed.

"He's comfortable on the ball and I think he should have had a penalty towards the end of the game.

"He wants to try to take people on, the sort of player the fans are going to like so we have to give him a little bit of time to adapt slightly.

"But the way he has trained, the way he has come in with his personality looks great so I am really pleased to have him."
