The key issue for Nottingham Forest to address before summer transfer window closes

Nottingham Forest have already been busy in the transfer market this summer - but it seems Reds fans believe there is more work still to be done.

And they are most concerned about outgoings.

Forest have brought in five new additions so far, signing Jack Colback, Tyler Blackett, Lyle Taylor, Fouad Bachirou and Luke Freeman.

But with few outgoings, the club are left with a significant number of players still on the books.

The likes of Costel Pantilimon, Zach Clough and Michael Hefele have not been part of the first-team set-up under Sabri Lamouchi.

Goalkeeper Pantilimon is said to be on the verge of a move to Turkey, while Clough has been linked with a switch to Greece.

But not moving on some of those unlikely to be first-team regulars is a worry for Forest supporters, it seems.

In a survey about the Reds’ transfer business, NottinghamshireLive asked what would be fans’ biggest concern regarding the transfer window.

Of almost 4,000 responses, 42 percent singled out “the dead wood stays” as the main issue to be addressed.

A third of those who replied said they were most worried about top players being sold, with the likes of Matty Cash and Joe Worrall of interest to Premier League clubs.

A total of 21 percent said they were concerned about a lack of new signings - fears which have hopefully been eased by the business already done.

Among the other responses, some said they were worried about not bringing in enough quality, as well as the manager continuing to play “too defensively”.

The number of new additions should have gone down well, though.

Asked how many players the club needed to sign in the window, almost half (48 percent) of those who replied said one to three arrivals would be enough.

A total of 26 percent of respondents were hoping for five or more new faces - a mark the club have now reached.

Meanwhile, 24 percent of fans said they thought 2-3 additions would be enough.

And the arrival of Lyle Taylor is likely to have gone down particularly well.

The front man was the top choice in our survey, with 41 percent saying he should be the club’s top target.

Thirty-eight percent would like to have seen Ivan Toney at the City Ground, while eight percent had been hoping for Rob Dickie - both of whom have ended up elsewhere.

Other players who respondents suggested should be the club’s top target included ex-Reds Oliver Burke and Britt Assombalonga, and - perhaps more in hope than expectation - Lionel Messi.
